What are Cataracts?

A cataract is the clouding of the eye's usually transparent lens, which contributes to blurred, hazy and foggy vision. Located beneath the iris and pupil; cataracts transpire as a process of aging, developing slowly and at a different rate within each eye.

Is Cataract Surgery Permanent?

Modern techniques and custom selected intraocular lenses mean that it may be possible for you to be glasses free following cataract removal. Eye & Laser Centre doctors have dedicated their careers in pursuing perfection from cataract surgery.

Modern cataract surgery is a safe and painless process. Recovery is easy, meaning very little down time. Eye & Laser Centre doctors custom select lenses to suit your eyes. This maximises the visual result you can achieve. Our doctors also have access to excimer laser that can be used to sharpen the vision even further following cataract surgery.

Multifocal and Extended Range of Vision Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)

Modern multifocal or better termed ‘extended range of vision’ intraocular lenses can result in great distance and near vision without spectacles following cataract or refractive lens exchange surgery. These lenses provide excellent functional vision. You will notice some dazzle and aura around streetlights and headlights with multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs). This is dramatically reduced by the new generation extended range of vision lenses. The dazzle and aura usually diminishes with time and is much less with current extended range of vision lenses compared with older multifocal intraocular lens designs.

Eye & Laser Centre Gold Coast doctors have had great success with the Tecnis Symfony Extended Range of Vision intraocular lens. This lens provides excellent distance vision with slightly less near vision than other multifocal designs but has the advantage of producing less dazzle around lights at night time as discussed above.
