Dr Peter Montgomery is an established, trusted and well-respected Ophthalmologist, and has been dedicated to caring for patients of the Gold Coast and surrounding community for over 21 years. 

Dr Montgomery offers personalized care, complimented by a comprehensive service using the latest technology and equipment, all delivered in a pleasant environment 

He specialises in adult oculoplastic surgery, paediatric lacrimal and oculoplastic surgery, endonasal DCR surgery, cataract surgery and pterygium surgery. 

Peter was among the first surgeons in Australasia to perform Endonasal DCR surgery for tear duct obstruction. He was also one of the first surgeons in Queensland to use the FLACS system (Femtosecond Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery). 

In 1986, Peter graduated from Otago University Medical School in New Zealand. He later underwent specialty training in the Waikato and Auckland hospitals. He graduated in 1993 and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. 

Peter then studied overseas for three additional years of sub-specialty training. The first year was focused on cataract surgery and diabetic eye disease at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. 

The final two years were in Oculoplastic, Lacrimal and Orbital surgery. The first of those years was at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in the UK. He continued further studies at McGill University, Royal Victoria Hospital and l’hopital Ste-Justine Paediatric Hospital in Montreal, Canada. His clinical experience emphasized endoscopic management of lacrimal problems and paediatric oculoplastic and lacrimal disease.

Peter returned to New Zealand where he spent 2 ½ years at Waikato Hospital as a consultant. In the year 2000, Peter moved to Australia and settled on the Gold Coast, where he still happily lives and enjoys looking after his patients.
