After graduating from the University of Queensland with Honours and an AMA medal, Jon started his medical life as a general practitioner. Against this background, he has an ophthalmic practice that focuses on holistic care and working with other primary care providers.
Jon received a Churchill Fellowship for studies in advanced corneal lamellar transplantation and, in addition to local affiliations, is a member of the American and European societies of cataract and refractive surgeons.
In addition to cataract, refractive and anterior segment practice, Jon spent one of his fellowship years treating medical diseases of the retina (ARMD, vein occlusions and diabetes), performing hundreds of fluorescein angiograms and intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF agent, along with macular and retinal lasers. He has a rational approach to patients requiring anti-VEGF injections and always strives to minimise the number of injections required while maximising patient outcomes.
